I spent 4 years of college life in Boston University, majoring in economics. Nonetheless, during this time, I thought i would not want to be an economist because I always wondered how to evaluate businesses and how they work. I once found out about a really cool restaurant concept called Bonchon in Boston and fascinated bringing this concept back in my hometown. This was a turning point of my life because I became really serious about the opportunity and decided to be back in Vietnam right after college. After a year of preparation and research, I successfully obtained the franchise rights from the Bonchon franchisor in South Korea. However, the project did not work out eventually because I had serious conflict regarding future visions with my co-investors. Then I became extremely uncertain about my future. However, I recalled my interest in finance when building financial forecast for the business plan. So I decided to pursuit finance as my future career. I started off by going through several roles at some financial service firms in Vietnam. I got familiar with the capital market and had chances to advise clients when i took my first job as a stock broker. Later on, I took a more technical role, learned a great deal about company research, financial modeling and writing reports when I was an equity research analyst. During this time, I started getting interested in investment banking and also pursuit the CFA designation to strengthen my technical skill because I did not study finance in college. A year ago, I decided to be back in the U.S because I strongly believed that this is the ideal place for me to learn and grow myself and my career. So I got back to Boston in March, passed the CFA level II in June and got a remote internship at a search fund in New York City late October. I mainly advise and support the Searcher to acquire and operate a company that suits her investment criteria. During my free time, I enjoy reading books, traveling, and watching sports.
